The big 5-0

School of Nursing planning party to celebrate major milestone

Campus and Community

By Marcia Porter

Calling all School of Nursing graduates: the school is turning the big 5-0 this year and celebrations are in the works!

Grab your calendar and save the dates—Oct. 14-15, 2016—for a party weekend with your friends and former classmates.

It all starts with a big night out on Friday, Oct. 14.

A committee of hard-working alumni and staff is working diligently to get in touch with everyone, no matter how far flung. It’s a big job considering the School of Nursing has more than 4,500 alumni in Newfoundland and Labrador, across the country and around the world.

If you haven’t heard from the school, and want to get in touch, please email with your name and contact information. The school is looking forward to catching up!

From modest beginnings in 1966, with 38 students and three faculty members, the School of Nursing is now a school of more than 400 students in undergraduate and graduate programs.

“We are immensely proud of our roots, and our growth,” said Dr. Alice Gaudine, dean, School of Nursing. “We began with a bachelor of nursing program and now offer a bachelor of nursing to students in regular-stream and fast-track options; we have a master’s of nursing program with practicum and nurse practitioner options, and a PhD in nursing program.

“We are also actively involved in nursing research and public engagement, which is an important part of Memorial’s mission to make a difference.”

Memorial’s School of Nursing has a highly regarded reputation. Last summer it received a full seven-year accreditation, the gold standard in nursing education. The school’s graduates are highly regarded wherever they practice.
